Dr. K. Vasanth Kumar is working as a postdoc to Prof. Ake Rasmuson and Prof. Kieran Hodnett in SSPC. Earlier he worked as an Advanced Stage IEF Marie Curie Research Fellow at Queen Mary (QMUL), University of London (on a joint project ‘BIOADSORB’ with University College London), Advanced Stage IAPP Marie Curie Research Fellow on project ‘Atlas-H2’ in National Centre of Scientific Research ‘Demokritos’ (NCSR), Greece and as Juan de la Cierva Researcher in University of Alicante, Spain. He won several prestigious fellowships that include the Individual Marie Curie Fellowship, Juan de la Cierva from the Spanish Ministry of Science, Ph.D student fellowship from Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, Portugal and Senior Research Fellowship from the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research. He was mentored by world known scientific pioneers Prof. Francisco Rodriguez Reinoso (UA, Spain), Prof. Magdalena Titirici (QMUL), Dr. Theodore Steriotis (NCSR), Prof. Erich Muller (Imperial College London). He worked as a main researcher in more than 11 EU projects and also made several research stays in Imperial College London (Molecular Simulations Group), Shinshu University (Exotic nanocarbons group, Japan), and University of Malaga (Spain). He has a Ph.D in Chemical and Biological Engineering from University of Porto (Porto, Portugal) and another Ph.D in Environmental Technology from Anna University (Chennai, India). He has more than 12 years of research experience, he has published more than 70 articles in SCI journals and > 50 articles in non-SCI journals/magazines as first and corresponding author that have been cited more than 5000 times and has an h-index of 30, and he was “one of the top 50 cited researchers in the world” 2004-2007 under the topic of Colloid and Interface Science. He is recipient of gold plated pen from the Journal of Colloid and Interface Science for publishing the most cited article in their journal. He developed eight new continuous distribution functions that can be used to characterise the heterogeneity of the porous materials (all of them are published in prestigious journals like Phys Chem Chem Phys, J Phys Chem C, ChemPhysChem). He is also one of the developers of Spiral Nucleation Model (10.1016/j.susc.2010.03.001) and two other original expressions (10.1080/09500830903196653, 10.1021/ie900823x, 10.1021/ie1010228) that can help to study the transport process involved in the crystallization/dissolution processes). His papers were listed as most cited articles multiple times in the prestigious journals that include, Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, Process Biochemistry, Journal of Hazardous Materials, Dyes and Pigments, Biochemical Engineering. Since 2008, one of his articles published in Catalysis Communications appears continuously on the most downloaded articles list. He is a Member of Royal Society of Chemistry and ECRS member of UK CCS Research Centre. He has a wide range of research interests that include storage of gases in porous materials, molecular simulations, and the crystallization of food and pharmaceutical products.
