H-index 100, congratulations to SSPC’s Prof. Mike Zaworotko

Prof. Mike Zaworotko was born in Wales in 1956 and received his B.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from Imperial College (1977) and the University of Alabama (1982), respectively. He served as a faculty member at Saint Mary’s University, Nova Scotia, Canada, from 1985-1998, at University of Winnipeg, Canada from 1998-99 and at the University of South Florida, USA, from 1999-2013. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Learned Society of Wales and the Institute of Chemistry of Ireland. He is also a Member of the Royal Irish Academy.

In 2013 he joined the University of Limerick, Ireland, where he currently serves as Bernal Chair of Crystal Engineering, Science Foundation of Ireland Research Professor and SSPC co-director.

Prof. Zaworotko currently has a H-index = 100, >500 publications with >50,000 citations.

In 2018 he was listed as a highly cited researcher in the field of Chemistry by Clarivate Analytics: www.highlycited.com and was listed as a highly cited researcher in a second field, Pharmacology and Toxicology.

In 2019, Mike was awarded €1m research funding  in ground-breaking research funding to study a new class of materials that could help to reduce the footprint of global energy production.

He developed a crystalline material, known as ROS-037. It has been developed as a commercially viable “nanomaterial” – a crystal made up by tiny repeating units – by Molecule RND Ltd, an international research group and incubator fund that has relocated to UL to work with his team.
