Prof. Norma Bargary

Modelling Theme Leader

University of Limerick

Biography

I am Chair of Data Science and Statistical Learning in the Dept of Mathematics and Statistics at UL. My research centres on the development of statistical models for large, high-dimensional and complex data that are measured over time (e.g. data measured using sensors, human movement data, etc.) This work is cross-cutting and applicable across a multitude of fields beyond statistics and statistical data science, including industry. I am a Principal/Funded Investigator in several national centres of excellence including Confirm Centre for Smart Manufacturing, Insight Centre for Data Analytics, SSPC, the SFI Research Centre for Pharmaceuticals, the Mathematics Applications Consortium for Science and Industry (MACSI), and am the UL Vice-Director of the SFI Centre for Research Training in Foundations of Data Science. My work has been funded by SFI, Enterprise Ireland, EU (FP7, H2020, Erasmus+) and industry, totalling in excess of €16M. I am currently PI on an SFI Frontiers of the Future grant and am the first of two statistical Ambassadors for the Royal Statistical Society to be based in Ireland.
