Read a profile on third year SSPC PhD student Ahmed Ahmed at NUIG. His main interest is in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) biomedical applications, essentially we use them as carries for drugs to improve the drug performance. Ahmed makes MOFs, which are crystalline porous hybrid materials with a lot of applications. He studies their properties and test their ability to carry different drugs. He primarily focuses on encapsulating anti-cancer drugs to improve their stability and performance.
