SSPC are delighted to be a part of the Pharma Awards, again, for 2020, having been shortlisted in three categories. Pharma Research Centre of the Year, Communications Award and Pharma Education & Training Award.
Pharma Research Centre of the Year
There were many significant accomplishments during 2019, which was a year of transition for SSPC as the Centre closed out Phase I activities and launched Phase II. SSPC welcomed many new partners, investigators, extended the research programme and increased research capabilities, amongst a few. Best of luck to PMBRC, Pharmaceutical & Molecular Biotechnology Research Centre at Waterford I.T., an SSPC collaborator.
Communications Award – Staying Connected
SSPC ran a staying connected internal communications campaign aimed at postdoctoral (PDRA) researchers and PhD students who found themselves out of the lab and working from home due to the Covid-19. This brought uncertainly and disruption to every business and as many SSPC researchers were new in their role and some had just travelled to Ireland, it was important to help the community adapt rapidly to this new environment.
The campaign ran for 8 weeks and platforms used were internal email, newsletters, learning hub, webinars and training events. In addition, PhD and postdoctoral working groups were set up and an SSPC guide book was created and shared.
Pharma Education & Training Award – PhD Industrial Placement Programme
A key impact of SSPC is the creation of a unique talent pipeline with the transition rate of SSPC researchers to industry currently standing at 70%. One of the key drivers facilitating the high number of transitions to industry is the SSPC PhD industry placement programme, which brings students into the industrial environment for a three-month placement aligned with their research area.
